Our core principles
Protecting Public Health
We are acutely aware of the direct link between clean energy and public health. We champion advancements in renewable energy technologies that significantly reduce air and water pollution, decrease greenhouse gas emissions, and mitigate climate change impacts, thereby safeguarding the health of our families and communities.
Sustainable Development
We advocate for the responsible development of renewable energy resources, emphasizing solar, wind, and other sustainable technologies. We support investments in infrastructure that enhance energy efficiency and promote a resilient energy grid, ensuring that our state's energy future is secure, reliable, and sustainable.
Veteran-Informed Decision-Making
Our unique perspective as veterans, shaped by our experiences fighting against environmental hazards, drives us to ensure that clean energy advancements do not replicate the same issues. We call for stringent standards and rigorous oversight to prevent the introduction of new pollutants and to ensure that energy projects are safe, sustainable, and beneficial for all.
Equity and Inclusion
We are committed to ensuring that the transition to clean energy is just and inclusive. This means prioritizing policies that support underserved communities, providing opportunities for workforce development in green technologies, and ensuring that all voices, especially those from frontline communities, are heard and valued in the decision-making process.
Environmental Security is National Security
Arizona’s extreme heat, water scarcity, and wildfire risks are not just environmental issues—they’re national security threats. Our state’s military readiness, energy resilience, and border stability are directly impacted by climate change.
VetsForward’s March 2025 Policy Brief outlines how climate-driven risks are endangering Arizona’s military installations and economic future, and calls for urgent action on clean energy, water security, and infrastructure resilience.
Tell the Arizona corporation Commission to VOTE NO on Rate HIKES!
Southwest Gas is pushing for its third rate hike in just three years, demanding an additional $125.6 million from Arizona families. If approved, this would increase monthly gas bills by 12%, hitting veterans, seniors, and working families the hardest, many of whom are already struggling with high living costs. This rate hike is about boosting corporate profits while Arizonans pay the price.
OPPOSE HB2679 & HB2201
VetsForward opposes HB2679 and HB2201 because they prioritize utility company profits over public accountability and consumer protection. These bills would allow utilities to pass financial risks onto customers, avoid regulatory oversight, and delay transitioning away from outdated, polluting energy sources, all while Arizona faces a climate and water crisis.
These proposals don’t solve problems, they create more of them, especially for vulnerable communities like veterans and working families.
More INFORMATION
In the meantime, thanks to the new clean energy incentives, passed by the Biden Administration and Congress, the Federal government has opened up a lot of opportunities to make investing in energy efficiency and clean energy upgrades for your home more affordable.*
Making these improvements more affordable, allows Arizonans to start controlling, and lowering, our energy bills right here at home. It’s also a clear sign to the ACC and APS that Arizonans are ready to be free and independent from outdated, polluting energy.
Check out the options below and learn more about what may be doable for your home.
Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
Having trouble paying to heat or cool your home? You may be eligible for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), a federal program designed to assist low-income households in the United States with their home energy costs. LIHEAP provides critical support in the form of financial assistance to help individuals and families afford their energy bills, reduce the risk of energy-related crises, and ensure that vulnerable populations, such as the elderly and disabled, can maintain a safe and comfortable living environment.
The program can help recipients pay for heating or cooling expenses, weatherization services, reducing health and safety risks associated with extreme temperatures, and other energy-related crisis assistance – preventing utility disconnections and ensuring families do not have to make difficult choices between paying for essential needs like food, medical care, or heating their homes. You can apply and learn more here.
On top of that, the Inflation Reduction Act, passed by Congress and the Biden administration in 2022 (Pub. L. 117–169, 136 Stat. 1818), has made clean energy more accessible and affordable to families in Arizona. Combining these federal incentives with local incentives can make it even cheaper to switch to cheaper, more stable energy sources for your home:
Federal Incentives and Rebates | Energy.gov has a full list of tax incentives and rebates that you may be eligible for, as well as frequently asked questions.
Local and Utility Rebates | DSIRE lists rebate and incentive options offered from utilities around the state - you can even change the filters to view offers that align with exactly what you are looking for. Some rebates are for upgrades via qualified contractors, but others are for simpler weatherization options. You will need to reach out to your utility company directly to ask any questions and get the process started.
